恒星状况

绘架座AB是年龄约3000万年的年轻恒星，是杜鹃－时钟星协的成员星[6]。同时该恒星也是天龙座BY型变星[2]。2005年公布绘架座AB有一颗伴星于2003年和2004年在绘架座AB近处被拍摄到，可能是环绕绘架座AB的伴星，称为绘架座ABb（AB Pictoris b、AB Pic b）。该颗伴星的的可能质量在棕矮星和行星边界上[7]。

可能的行星系统
日冕仪拍摄绘架座AB影像中可在影像左下角见到一个小伴星。该影像于2003年3月16日由甚大望远镜拍摄。

2003年和2004年，一组天文学家在欧洲南方天文台拍摄到绘架座AB有一颗相当接近的伴星（现称为绘架座ABb）。因为该天体和绘架座AB的自行相同，因此认为该天体与母恒星相当接近。伴星的光谱类型在L0V到L3V之间，质量大约是13到14倍木星质量[7]。但是因为创建这样年轻恒星的模型很困难，以上预测都是不确定的。其预测依模型不同，预测质量从11到70倍木星质量不等。表面温度约1600 K 到 2400 K[5]。因为目前不明白该天体质量是否超过氘燃烧下限的13倍木星质量，无法确认是行星还是棕矮星[7]。
