FromSoftware

FromSoftware，有时亦简称为FS社[2]，是日本的电子游戏开发公司。代表作为机战佣兵、合金猎犬、钢铁苍狼：浑沌之战等机甲动作游戏及国王密令、恶魔灵魂、黑暗灵魂系列、血源诅咒、只狼、艾尔登法环等3D动作RPG。

FromSoftware已于2014年被角川集团收购，成为其子公司。

成立经纬

FromSoftware由神直利在机车事故受伤修养期间决定用保险金成立[3]。原本开发商业应用软件，如替日本农会开发连接软件或管理猪饲料的农业应用软件[4]。因此当时个个成员都是穿西装上班[5]的程序员。

转型

20世纪90年代初，此时FromSoftware就有投入游戏开发之意，起因为公司成员于午休期间利用公司工作站做出了操作3D多边形机器人游戏，社长神直利对游戏也有热情，认为有商业潜力。但碍于当时个人电脑性能有限、家用电玩主机开发工具规格特殊等原因，直至1994年才加入开发容易又特化3D多边形演算的PlayStation阵营。并于同年12月推出处女作《国王密令》这款3D第一人称RPG。[6]

作风

重视技术力，对参加新电玩主机较为积极。从Dreamcast、GameCube、PlayStation 2、PlayStation 3到Xbox、Xbox 360都在日本上市未满两年就推出作品。掌上型游戏机甚至手机游戏都有涉猎。

开幕视频或试映片多半是有如实摄的逼真CG视频。几乎没有2D类游戏。

作品风格大多背景黑暗萧索，叙事不连贯且隐晦（如《机战佣兵》的人物一律不露脸）。操作亦以不易上手、难度高而著称。在玩家间以硬派形象闻名，欠缺所谓的萌系角色（《恶魔灵魂》因SCE希望提升卖相加入了女角，却是双眼被蜡盖住的黒衣防火女，令SCE的制作人梶井语塞[7]） ，只有少数如玉兔追月走可爱路线。

作品惯例会出现名为Moonlight的强力剑系武器。2000年推出在PC的国王密令开发工具亦以此为名。
