弧

优弧是指圆心位于弧与弦连接成的封闭图形之内；劣弧是指圆心位于弧与弦连接成的封闭图形之外。简单地说，大于半圆的弧即是优弧，而小于半圆的弧就叫劣弧。半圆则没有优劣弧之分。

当要表示一条曲在线${\displaystyle A}$与${\displaystyle B}$两点之间所形成的弧时，会写成${\displaystyle {\overset {\frown }{AB}}}$或${\displaystyle \mathrm {arc} \;AB}$而不会只写成${\displaystyle AB}$，因为这样写表示这两点间的线段，亦即是${\displaystyle AB}$所成的弦（如上图所示）。
