北极一

北极一，又称太子或小熊座 γ（γ Ursae Minoris、缩写为Gamma UMi、γ UMi），英文名 Pherkad[10]，是位在北半球小熊座的拱极星。太子与帝（小熊座β，Kochab）一起组成"小北斗"尾端的勺口。小北斗星群组成小熊的尾巴。

命名

小熊座γ（拉丁文是Gamma Ursae Minoris）是拜耳命名法的恒星名称。

它过去的传统名称是Pherkad，源自阿拉伯文فرقد，简称为farqad、"calf"，全名为 aḫfa al farkadayn，意思是"昏暗中的两只牛犊"，也就是太子（Pherkad）与帝（Kochab），而全称的Ahfa al Farkadain传统上是勾陈四（小熊座ζ）。太子有时被称为Pherkad Major，以与天床增二（Pherkad Minor，小熊座11，小熊座γ1）有所区别。在2016年，国际天文学联合会组织下的IAU恒星名称工作组（WGSN）[11]规范了恒星传统专有名称的目录。WGSN于2016年8月21日批准这颗恒星的名称Pherkad，并收入IAU的恒星目录中[10]。

恒星光谱分类为A3II-III型的白色巨星或亮巨星。虽然有资料将其归纳为超巨星，但是对比超巨星它显然太小，亮度只有普通A型超巨星的10%。视星等3.00等，距离地球480光年。北极一的亮度超过太阳的1100倍，质量约是太阳的5倍，直径超过太阳的15倍[12]。北极一在公元前1900年至公元500年间与北极二一起成为北极星。
