鲇科是辐鳍鱼纲鲇形目的其中一科。该科下现存大约100个种。[1]

尽管鲇科鱼类从欧洲到亚洲都有分布，但最常见于东南亚，在大部份中亚地区都找不到其踪迹。[1] 其大致有两个分支，即温带欧亚分支和热带/亚热带南亚东南亚分支。[1]
