西部低地大猩猩
西部低地大猩猩（Gorilla gorilla gorilla）是西部大猩猩的亞種，生活於安哥拉、喀麥隆、中非共和國、剛果共和國、剛果民主共和國、赤道畿內亞及加蓬的山地、原始及次生樹林，並低地沼澤。牠們是動物園中常見的大猩猩。

雄性西部低地大猩猩站立時高6呎及重約450磅。[2]
西部低地大猩猩是草食性的，有時會吃昆蟲。牠們是群居的，族群中有一頭雄性領袖、5-7頭雌性及幼猩猩，並可能有其他的雄性。
成年雄性容易患上類似心肌病的心臟病。在美國阿拉巴馬州伯明翰動物園內的一頭西部低地大猩猩是首頭接受人工心臟起搏器的大猩猩。
