USS

USS是United States Ship，意指「美国船舰」。这缩写专指美国海军的现役船舰，例如「钟云号」（USS Chung-Hoon）。在激活典礼前的船只会被冠上PCU（Pre Commissioning Unit，尚未服役单位）[1]，而退役的船只则不保留USS的称号。[2]

由来

在美国海军成立时是没有这项规定的。直到1907年老罗斯福总统在1月8号签署了行政命令第549号，规定所有美国海军船只「在船名前加上United States Ship，或缩写USS，不可再加上其他字。」[2]（The name of such vessel, preceded by the words, United States Ship, or the letters U.S.S., and by no other words or letters.）
