TortoiseHg是用PyQt所写（Windows shell外壳扩展例外），其底层的客户端软件可以在命令行界面下运行。

2020年6月时，bitbucket不维护mercurial项目，因此TortoiseHg从bitbucket中移出[7]，移到了heptapod网站[8]。
