历史
Sybase位于加州都柏林的总部。
Sybase于1984年由Mark Hoffman、Bob Epstein、Jane Doughty及Tom Haggin于Epstein加州柏克莱家中创立。及后制作关联式数据库管理系统（RDBMS）。
1986年，Sybase发布首个测试程序；1987年五月正式公布首个用于在线应用程序之关系数据库管理系统「SYBASE system」。Sybase是首间制作商用主客模式关系数据库管理系统的公司。
其时Sybase之数据库服务器产品名为「Sybase SQL Server」；其与微软协议让Microsoft使用其源码制作用于OS/2之「SQL Server」。直至4.9版之前，Sybase与Microsoft SQL Server差不多一模一样。由于两间公司对利润分配争议，两间公司决定分道扬鏣，各自发展自己产品，但两间公司之产品亦有相同之特色，如同样使用Transact-SQL（T-SQL）。较大之分野是Sybase产品有较强Unix背景，而Microsoft SQL Server只用于Windows NT。Sybase之产品亦可用于Windows、不同版本之Unix及Linux。
1994年收购Powersoft，产品包括Powerbuilder。
