1998年4月，成立「SMEJ Associated Records」。最初品牌名仅以「Sony Music Entertainment (Japan) Inc.」表示，1999年左右针对品牌名进行明确标示。
2001年10月，日本索尼音乐娱乐进行业务调整。旗下的部门（Sony Music Associated Records、日本索尼音乐国际、Sony Music Records、Ki/oon Music、日本史诗唱片）独立成为旗下子公司。
