PubMed Central与PubMed不同。[2]PubMed Central是一个免费的论文数据库，任何人都可以通过网络浏览器从任何地方访问PubMed Central和阅读论文全文。相反 PubMed只提供生物医学领域的论文引文和摘要，论文全文并不在PubMed上，用户需要在PubMed以外的地方获取论文全文，而这些地方有可能付费才能阅览。
