起源

西姓大致上有几种来源。

古时西陵居民，后裔以西为姓。
西门豹的后人，改西门姓为西姓。[1]
公西姓的后人。
各种因避祸而改西姓者。
朝鲜半岛亦有此姓。
苗族、白族等少数民族族人有西姓。

现在西姓散居于中国、朝鲜半岛等地，唯人数不多。以中国论，辽、粤两行省占七成，中国的少数民族西姓，许多人汉化以后，改奚姓、习姓。
