施美夫

1815年6月19日，施美夫出生于英格兰西南部森麻实郡的惠灵顿。1837年获牛津大学学士学位（1843年获硕士学位，1849年获博士学位），1839年按立为会吏，1840年按立为牧师。不久他加入英国圣公会的海外差会Church Missionary Society，成为一名传教士。

1844年9月25日，施美夫和麦丽芝牧师（T.McClatchie）抵达香港，他们是最早来华的2位英国圣公会传教士。他们对通商口岸进行考察后，确定浙江宁波为该差会在中国的传教中心。由于健康原因，他被迫返回英国，1847年出版了他在华期间的“Narrative”。这时他努力为在华传教事业筹集资金，于1849年被委任为新成立的维多利亚教区会督（主教），负责中国和日本的传教事业。他在1850年3月29日抵达香港，致力于传教及教育工作，并担任圣保罗书院之第二任校长。他在香港的期间，亦有到亚洲其他国家地区传教。

1864年，施美夫离开香港回到英国定居，次年从主教职位退休，1871年12月14日于英国Blackheath（当时属于肯特郡，今属伦敦）家中病逝。
