特别探员，为政府机关或独立机关单位所工作的调查员。
专门负责刑事侦缉及调查的刑事警察，在香港称为探员，在其他中文区域亦称警探、刑侦人员等，在日本与台湾称为刑事。
曾经存在的香港警察职级──探员。
香港警务处刑事部人员，古称暗差，俗称杂差。
