原上猿长40厘米，像今天的长臂猿。牠的眼睛向前，有立体视觉。原上猿最有可能是杂食性的。原上猿有可能其实与埃及猿是同一种生物。若真的是这样，原上猿的学名则会较埃及猿的优先。[1]
